Question about hypertension?

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure two years ago. Lifestyle and diet changes weren't enough to bring it down, so I take medication for it. It's an ARB, and it works really well, I check myself at home on a regular basis. The thing is, the doc wants me to come in every six months for an office visit to have my pressure checked. Twice a year seems a little excessive for an otherwise healthy guy of 36. I check my BP every day, if the numbers were to go up, I wouldn't hesitate to make an appointment. My question is, is it standard practice for a person on maintenance medication to have follow up visits every six months?
