Aircraft in WWII warfare?
Interesting question, Air supremacy usually is established before any major ground operations are begun, then it must be MAINTAINED during combat operations(that's the tricky part). Aircraft in combat have a variety of roles. First, air to air operations against the opponent's air assets. Second, ground support. This is exactly what it sounds like, aircraft operating in support of ground forces. Sometimes referred to as close air support because the aircraft must operate at altitudes much lower than they were designed for. War games, what can I say? They are games. Anything can happen in them. As for ground forces bringing down aircraft with things like rifles and anti-tank weapons, yeah, it happens but not as often as they would have you believe. There is such a thing as dumb luck.
